GET TO KNOW US!

Hello!

My name is Amber Buhler, and I am the owner and head trainer of Loyal Paws Dog Training. I am very excited and jumping with anticipation to launch my new website and online courses!

My passion in life is to help people understand their dogs on a deeper level. Focusing on dog training, I am able to help owners communicate more effectively with their beloved furry companions, helping to create harmony within their families.

I absolutely love working with families and their dogs. Seeing the joy on their faces when they reach a moment of “ah ha!” with their dog is truly amazing and fulfilling!

While I do enjoy working with owners and their own dogs. I also enjoy working with rescue dogs that have yet to find their forever home. Over the years I have volunteered my experience and expertise with dog training and problem solving for rescues with foster dogs that need some extra TLC, as well as taking in dogs from nearby northern communities and taking care of them until we can find them a rescue.

My husband is a huge supporter of my career – and the rescues we take in and care for together. We both love animals, and him growing up on a farm with various farm animals, dogs, cats, horses you name it gave him experience and knowledge he continues to pass on to me. Our bond together lets us help animals in a bigger way.

Currently, we live in northern Manitoba with our 3 dogs. Rambo, Nova, and Storm. We have fallen in love with the past time of fishing and boating and love spending any time we can on our boat in the summer. In the winter, we enjoy snowshoeing, and ice fishing and other fun northern activities… ok, maybe we spend more time playing some video games and binge watching some TV series – but who doesn’t when it’s -50?!

Our dogs change our status from a happy married couple to a happy family, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Rambo was our first dog together, and Matthew found him in a ditch, covered in burrs and some ticks. He was an adorable puppy, and is our biggest cuddler today – BUT you want to meet a dog who tests the rules? Rambo is your dog!

Nova was our second pup, she came from Brandon Humane Society and we got her at 4 months old. She was fearful as a pup from the first day we brought her home and although she has made leaps and bounds in her confidence, we still work on it every opportunity we get. She has a crazy prey drive, and absolutely adores training in every way. She is also my lil shadow.

Storm is the pure-bred princess of the bunch. As a Great Dane she enjoys the finer things in life: Comfy beds, couch cuddles and only the bestest of bones and antlers out there, and forget about trying new foods like celery. She enjoys playing catch, learning tricks and you guessed it; Sleeping!

We also have a Crested Gecko named Albi, he is a 6 year old Buckskin and happily puts up with our three pups – watching them closely from inside his safe glass bubble.

Our animals make us unbelievably happy on a daily basis, they never fail to give us a laugh and put a smile on our faces. They have become our world, and anytime we can bring them with us, we certainly do!

In Winnipeg I have an amazing loving family – My mom, my younger sister and brother, uncle and my grandparents. We have the best of laughs together, and enjoy goofing off at family gatherings or whenever Matt and I get some time in the city. Matts parents live outside of Winnipeg on a beautiful farm – we love going there and spending time with them and his sister and all of his parent’s animals. Of course, our dogs absolutely love the farm too and spending time with all of the family.  We are very lucky to have an amazing and supportive family on both sides!

I hope this gives you a better insight into who I am, but I also wanted to give a bit of insight into what Loyal Paws is here to accomplish.

In 2014, I graduated from Animal Behaviour College and finished my externship with a well-known dog training facility in Winnipeg. I worked in a dog boarding kennel for a while and offered training sessions to family and friends around my community. I met Matthew and moved in with him in summer of 2015. It took us 3 hours away from family to Shoal Lake MB, where I decided to really start following my dream of owning a dog training business.

I not only want to train dogs, but I also have a strong passion for getting owners a basic understanding of the amazing furry beast they live with every day. I also am very driven and love the idea of being an entrepreneur in my field.

After a couple of months of living together, I started looking into local rescues and I found one that asked for my training guidance with foster dogs and foster families. It was a lot of Separation Anxiety, food bowl guarding and fearful behaviour. I then got my first foster dog through them, Winnie, and she came straight to our house from the community she was in – we fell in love and to this day she is “the one that got away” (but that is another story)

Winnie – The foster that got away!

I worked with the rescue for 4 years, until I decided to part ways and got asked to team up with a different rescue – and as of now, I am offering services to any rescues at very discounted rates for their dogs in care.

So, how does this tie into Loyal Paws Dog Training? Well, I started Loyal Paws because all the fosters I had been helping opened my eyes to a niche in my field that I could excel in. Online Dog Training services!

Rescues started referring owners to me when they contacted the rescue about surrendering their dog due to behaviour issues. Some of these issues were simple – jumping mouthy puppies that they couldn’t take for a walk or control easily. Some were not so easy – food guarding, leash reactive, dog aggressive, human aggressive, etc.

I saw a need, and I wanted to help. I started Loyal Paws in January of 2016 and started helping people through online support – video chat, PDF handouts, and messaging – people who lived rurally or just didn’t have the time/money to get a trainer from the city. I wanted to make dog training even more accessible to those owners. By 2017, I had registered my business, and in June 2019 – I had launched my first online courses.

This is how I started Loyal Paws, and today it is still evolving! I am so happy with the amazing people I work with, the rescues and the owners. I cannot wait to share with you my online courses, and for you guys to all see what we have in store for you!

I truly hope this helped you get a better insight into who I am, and the type of business I am wanting to run. I can definitely go into more depth one day – but for now, I just wanted to give you a little peek into Loyal Paws Dog Training.

I hope you all have a great week! I truly appreciate the support of my website and blog launch! Don’t forget to stay tuned for future blog posts and exciting giveaways for the online courses!

Feel free to check out the upcoming courses here!

Until next time,

Happy Training, One Paw at a time
